Apple Says iPhone Unresponsive Issues Linked to GasBuddy iOS App [u]

Is your iPhone 8, iPhone 8 Plus, iPhone X, iPhone XS or iPhone XS Max dealing with unresponsive issues? The problem results in an iPhone getting stuck in an endless respring loop, where the display goes black and a spinning white wheel keeps going forever.

But now, according to Apple, the company has discovered what has caused the issue: the iOS app GasBuddy. The details were shared with Apple retail stores in a memo, as seen by MacRumors:

Apple has identified an “issue” with the GasBuddy app that may result in some iPhone 8, iPhone 8Plus, iPhone X, iPhone XS, and iPhone XSMax devices becoming “unresponsive,” according to an internal announcement shared with Apple Stores today. The memo was obtained by MacRumors from a reliable source.

Apple explains it is working with the developers of GasBuddy to fix the issue, which began sometime after October 18, 2018. GasBuddy told MacRumors they are investigating the matter.

The company also just tweeted, “We are aware that some people are encountering issues with our iOS app. We’re rapidly preparing an update we believe solves the issue and are making our app temporarily unavailable for download to limit the number of potentially affected users.”

The only way to get out of the endless respring loop is to force restart an iPhone, then delete GasBuddy off the device to stop the problem from starting over again.
