Apple’s Shortcuts iOS App Gets New Actions for Weather, Alarms and More

Apple has updated their Shortcuts iOS app today, bringing new actions for weather, alarms, timer and more.

According to the update, you can now “Use the latest weather in your shortcuts with the new Get Current Weather and Get Weather Forecast actions.”

For alarms, users can “Set alarms and timers with the new Create Alarm, Toggle Alarm, and Start Timer actions.”

Conversion is now easier with new Measurement and Convert Measurement actions, while you can “get the most recent set of imported photos from the Photos app using the Get Last Import action.”

When you now run a shortcut from HomePod with Siri, “media will now automatically play back from HomePod using AirPlay.”

Other changes:

  • You can now stop sharing a shortcut and remove its data from iCloud by opening the iCloud link on iOS and choosing “Stop Sharing” in the Shortcuts app
  • The Take Video action now supports starting video recording automatically with the “Start Immediately” option
  • You can now use the Call and FaceTime actions with Siri without unlocking your iPhone

The update also releases some bug fixes:

  • Fixed an issue where the Shortcuts app may crash when opening the editor
  • Fixed an issue where Search iTunes Store and Search App Store caused an error message to appear
  • Fixed an issue where the Dropbox file picker could not navigate into folders
  • Fixed an issue where some apps were missing from the Open App action
  • Fixed an issue where shortcuts may become duplicated after syncing
  • Fixed an issue where shortcut order may be reset after syncing a new device
  • Fixed an issue where logging into Todoist may display an error message
  • Fixed an issue where variables in Find and Filter actions may not be fully visible
  • Fixed an issue where the Shortcuts app may hang on reminder creation
  • Fixed an issue where the Append to File action did not behave properly when the specified filename did not end in .txt
  • Localization improvements
  • Other bug fixes and minor additions
