Facebook Announces the Launch of Nonprofit Fundraising in Canada

Just ahead of the National Philanthropy Day on November 15th, Giving Tuesday on November 27th, and the upcoming holiday season, Facebook has announced the launch of nonprofit fundraising in Canada in an effort to provide new ways for the Canadians to support the causes that are important to them.

Fundraise

Starting today, people and verified Pages, including nonprofits and public figures, in Canada can create fundraisers for charities on Facebook and add donate buttons to their posts and Facebook Live videos. Furthermore, the social network is adding thousands of Canadian charities for the first time so people can support them directly through Facebook Fundraisers.

Here’s how Facebook’s nonprofit fundraising works:

  • When you create a fundraiser to benefit a charity, you’ll be able to select a charity that you want to support. Fundraisers allow people to set up a dedicated page to tell others about a cause and rally around a fundraising goal. To create a fundraiser, visit facebook.com/fundraisers
  • When you add a donate button to your posts or Facebook Live videos, you’re able to promote one-off asks for charities without having to commit to a fundraising goal or timeline.
  • Donations to registered charities in Canada are received and granted by PayPal Giving Fund. To learn more about PayPal Giving Fund, visit their website.

Facebook says it will not charge any fees on donations made to nonprofits via the platform.
