BBC BritBox Streaming Service Hits 500,000 Subscribers in Canada and the USA

Almost a year ago, BBC Studios launched its BritBox streaming video service in Canada. Approaching the service’s one-year anniversary, BritBox has announced the service has now surpassed 500,000 subscribers in Canada and the USA.

According to BritBox, the service saw its subscribers double year-on-year. The service launched in the US back in the spring of 2017 and Canada one year later.

Soumya Sriraman, President, BritBox, told iPhone in Canada in a statement, “We knew that our special sauce of combining our ‘Now’ feature – near live television – with the best British TV programming would make this a must-have service. British content is as popular as ever, and we are doubling down by making incredible series accessible while continuing to build our ever-growing community around desirable content.”

BritBox says their service has been able to target an underserved demographic in the streaming world—“the over 50 female” audience, which has “fueled BritBox’s success” as a niche streaming video-on-demand service.

BritBox is available in Canada for $89.99 per year or $8.99 per month, with a 7-day free trial available. The streaming service is available on the web, Chromecast, Roku, Apple TV, iOS and Android.
