Chevrolet iPhone App Launches Vehicle Locate Check-In Feature in Canada
Chevrolet has updated their myChevrolet iOS app to support a new feature called Vehicle Locate, aimed to let car owners send automated texts to friends and family when a car enters or leaves a specific boundary or area.
Known as Vehicle Locate, owners will be able to create geo-fences ranging from 75 metres to a 30-kilometre radius. Up to 10 people can be notified via text message when a car arrives or leaves a destination, via the opt-in system.
“At Chevrolet we aim to make our drivers’ lives easier through smart and purposeful technologies,” said Alejandra Gonzalez, product manager, Remote Services, Chevrolet, in a press release. “Vehicle Locate provides both drivers and their loved ones with peace of mind in a variety of different drive-related scenarios.”
Who should use this new Vehicle Locate feature? Chevrolet says it could apply to working professionals commuting to and from work, concerned parents about teenagers with new licenses, modern daters with their blind online dates, and truck owners loaning their vehicles to friends, for example.
Vehicle Locate is available for Chevrolet owners of eligible 2012 or newer vehicles in Canada, the U.S. and Mexico. The feature is part of the company’s OnStar Remote Access Plan, which allows for remotely connected services to unlock a car door, get diagnostics and more.
