Telus announced earlier this week it will be investing $60 million in Airdrie, Alberta, to connect “more than 90 per cent of homes and businesses in Airdrie directly to its fibreoptic network.”
According to Telus, construction will begin this spring when weather permits, with a completion date to connect the “majority” of homes and businesses by the end of 2020.
“This investment to bring TELUS PureFibre to Airdrie will future-proof the community for generations to come,” said Tony Geheran, TELUS Chief Customer Officer, in an issued statement.
Telus says their PureFibre network “is among the most advanced communications infrastructure available in the world today,” offering symmetrical upload and download speeds of 750/750 megabits per second.
“Last year we launched Airdrie’s economic strategy for the next ten years. TELUS’ investment in Airdrie will further the objectives outlined in this strategy. It will connect our community through technology, draw entrepreneurs and talent to the City and set businesses up for success,” said Mayor Brown.
Telus says this investment is part of their plan to invest $4.2 billion throughout Alberta from 2017 to 2020.
