Google has announced YouTube Music and YouTube Premium have launched discounted student plans in Canada for university and college students.
Monthly student pricing is as follows:
- YouTube Music: $4.99
- YouTube Premium: $6.99
The monthly student pricing for YouTube Music is on par with other streaming services like Apple Music and Spotify.
According to a YouTube spokesperson to iPhone in Canada, eligible students will get “access to a world of music, original series and movies — all ad-free and at a wallet-friendly price.”
YouTube Music is a music streaming service without ads (along with background listening and offline downloads), while YouTube Premium brings the ad-free experience to YouTube and also brings access to YouTube Originals such as Cobra Kai.
Confirming eligibility requirements for the student program will be administered by SheerID:
Be enrolled as a student at a higher education institution in a location where YouTube student memberships are offered and that has been approved by SheerID. A higher education institution is a post-secondary institution that is certified/accredited by its respective government to issue degrees or diplomas. The eligibility of the institution is determined by SheerID.
