Sonos and IKEA’s New SYMFONISK Bookshelf, Table Lamp Speakers Coming to Canada [u]

SYMFONISK Range

Sonos and IKEA have launched their SYMFONISK table lamp and bookshelf Wi-Fi speakers, calling them “furniture that blends into the home in a new way, making it easier to furnish with sound.”

Both SYMFONISK speakers are compatible with existing Sonos speakers and are controlled via the Sonos app. This means they support partner apps like Spotify and iHeartRadio, while also can be made into stereo pairs, plus they support Apple’s AirPlay 2 protocol. Customers can also use these speakers as rears in their 5.0 or 5.1 home theatre system, explained Sonos.

“We knew from the start that we wanted to challenge the traditional high-tech aesthetics. The lamp-speaker partly springs from the idea of the fireplace – one single piece that spreads warm light as well as sound,” says Iina Vuorivirta, one of the designers of SYMFONISK lamp-speaker at IKEA of Sweden, in an issued statement to iPhone in Canada.

The SYMFONISK table lamp speaker “combines light and sound into one product in order to de-clutter the home with less devices and cords,” priced at $249 in Canada.

Tad Toulis, Vice President of Design at Sonos says “We set out to create products neither of us would or could develop independently. To this end, since music and light are both instrumental in creating a sense of place, we developed a product that can deliver both – the SYMFONISK lamp speaker.”

These two SYMFONISK speakers will launch in Canada this August. Update: Added local Canadian pricing.
