Rumours of iTunes coming to an end for Mac users (Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman is right again) came true yesterday at WWDC, as Apple announced users in macOS Catalina will get dedicated apps for Apple Music, Apple Podcasts and Apple TV:
macOS Catalina replaces iTunes with three all-new apps that greatly simplify and improve the way Mac users discover and enjoy their favorite music, TV shows, movies and podcasts.
Despite Mac users ‘pouring one out’ for iTunes yesterday, Windows users, for now, can rest assured iTunes is remaining.
According to Billboard’s Micah Singleton, he says “Apple tells me iTunes will continue to exist in its current state on Windows,” while the iTunes Music Store for Mac users will be found in the sidebar within the Music app in macOS Catalina. Similar info was also provided to ArsTechnica by Apple.
iTunes was Apple’s digital hub for devices owned by customers and had become bloated and overrun with too many tasks, since its debut in 2001. While iTunes has been sunset for macOS Catalina users, Windows users can rest assured for now the software remains for syncing their Apple devices.
