Apple Releases AirPort Base Station Firmware Update 7.8.1

Airport base station firmware 7 8 1

For owners of Apple’s AirPort Base Station, a new firmware update is available, version 7.8.1.

According to Apple, “Firmware update 7.8.1 improves the security of your base station and is recommended for all Apple 802.11n Wi-Fi base stations including AirPort Express, AirPort Extreme and AirPort Time Capsule.”

You can update your AirPort Base Station by launching AirPort Utility on your Mac, or by using the version on iOS. Your AirPort devices should show a red numbered badge, indicating an update is available; just tap it to download and install the update.

If you have multiple base stations, Apple recommends updating your primary base station last.

Last month, Apple released a firmware update for its AirPort Extreme and AirPort Time Capsule base stations with 802.11ac, to similarly address security updates.

If you’re looking for Apple’s classic AirPort Extreme wireless router, western Canada retailer, London Drugs, has them on clearance in-store for $99.99–if you’re lucky enough to find one.
