TP-Link announced back at CES 2019 in January it would be adding Apple HomeKit support to its Smart Plug Mini (HS105), but in an updated support document shared yesterday, the company has reversed its decision on the matter.
“Due to changes in our roadmap, the Kasa Smart Plug Mini (HS105) smart plug will not offer support for Apple HomeKit,” reads the Q&A article, dated August 12, 2019.
The Smart Plug Mini supports Amazon Alexa, Google Assistant and Microsoft Cortana for hands-free control of the plug by supported devices. The smart plug’s compact design allows for two devices to be plugged in side-by-side.
“Despite the change in direction for this specific SKU, our team is committed to the development of innovative smart home solutions that will continue to delight our customers around the globe,” added TP-Link.
It probably is disappointing for customers who purchased this plug thinking HomeKit support was coming. It’s not the first time this has happened in the industry (August’s Doorbell Cam comes to mind), so it’s definitely buyer beware when a company promises future support for HomeKit.
