Here’s What Apple’s Tile-Like Tracking Accessory Might Look Like

As reported by MacRumors, an internal build of iOS 13 has revealed that Apple’s Tile-like accessory for tracking personal belongings like keys, wallets, or handbags, could look like a small, circular tag with an Apple logo, adding fuel to an earlier report by 9to5Mac who was first to suggest that Apple is planning to release such a product.

Apple item tag

The source notes that although the image could be a mockup or placeholder, the final design of the tag should somehow resemble this.

Moreover, the product is codenamed “B389” internally at Apple and there are a number of strings found in iOS 13 that reveal that product’s purpose, such as “tag your everyday items with B389 and never lose them again.”:

The tags will be closely integrated with the new Find My app in iOS 13, which merged Apple’s previous Find My iPhone and Find My Friends apps into one.

Users will receive a notification when they are separated from a tagged item, according to strings in the internal Find My app bundle. If necessary, users can then tap a button in the Find My app that will cause Apple’s tag to start emitting an audible chime to help locate the lost item.

There are also strings that suggest Apple’s tags will be equipped with a removable battery, which would likely be a button cell, aka the small, circular batteries found in many watches and the latest Tile trackers.

The image above shows the ‘Items’ Tab found in iOS 13’s ‘Find My’ app prior to any items being added, in line with the “People” and “Devices” tabs when empty.

Since the details have been found in an internal iOS 13 build from June, it remains unclear whether the “Items” tab or all of the other information presented above will be exactly as described or not. I guess we’ll find out soon enough.
