Facebook Fixes iOS App to No Longer Open your Camera in the Background

Earlier this week it was discovered the Facebook iOS app would activate your iPhone camera in the background for some users without them knowing, causing a privacy violation.
The company told The Verge at the time, “we have seen no evidence of photos or videos being uploaded due to this bug.”
Found a @facebook #security & #privacy issue. When the app is open it actively uses the camera. I found a bug in the app that lets you see the camera open behind your feed. Note that I had the camera pointed at the carpet. pic.twitter.com/B8b9oE1nbl

Facebook said a fix would be released in the App Store and it arrived yesterday, according to a statement to The Verge. I guess if you’re an avid Facebook user, this comes as good news. Apple should introduce a notification in the status bar to let users know when apps that are actively using your camera.
