Apple Arcade Launches ‘Ultimate Rivals: The Rink’ Featuring Wayne Gretzky and More
Apple has announced a new game franchise from Bit Fry has exclusively launched on Apple Arcade, featuring licensing agreements from pro sports leagues and also Canada’s own hockey legend, Wayne Gretzky.
The first game is called Ultimate Rivals: The Rink and will allow players to choose from over 50 players from various pro sports leagues to compete in two-on-two hockey matches.
“Players can combine, for instance, Alex Ovechkin and Alex Morgan against De’Aaron Fox and Jose Altuve or Skylar Diggins-Smith and Wayne Gretzky,” reads Apple’s press release.
The next game will be an NBA licensed basketball game called Ultimate Rivals: The Court, coming in spring 2020.
“Bit Fry has secured groundbreaking licensing agreements with nine major professional sports organizations, including the NHL, NHL Players’ Association (NHLPA), NBA, National Basketball Players Association (NBPA), MLB, MLB Players Association (MLBPA), NFLPA, Women’s National Basketball Players Association (WNBPA), USWNTPA, as well as Wayne Gretzky,” says Apple.
“With Apple Arcade, we are committed to delivering a curated catalog where every title offers players a new, innovative experience that pushes the boundaries of what a game can be. The ‘Ultimate Rivals’ franchise does just that,” said Phil Schiller, Apple’s senior vice president of Worldwide Marketing, in a statement. “‘Ultimate Rivals: The Rink’ is a great new addition to Apple Arcade and we are excited for everyone to try it out.”
Ultimate Rivals will allow for online multiplayer or single-player against AI opponents and also support Bluetooth console controllers.
