Oscar-Winning Screenwriter Goes Off: “Apple Keyboards are Horrendous”

After winning his first Oscar award last night (Best Adapted Screenplay – Jojo Rabbit), New Zealand actor, filmmaker and comedian, Taika Waititi, went off about Apple’s problematic MacBook butterfly keyboards.

He was asked by a reporter about what writers should be asking for in their next round of talks with the Writers Guild of America. Here’s what he had to say:

Apple needs to fix those keyboards. They are impossible to write on. They’ve gotten worse—and makes me want to go back to PCs, because PC keyboards, the bounce back on your fingers is way better. Hands up here on who still uses a PC? You know what I’m talking about. It’s a way better keyboard. And those Apple keyboards are horrendous. Just gotta fix those keyboards…the WGA has got to step in and actually do something.

Check out Waititi responding below—he’s definitely spot on here:

Apple went back to scissor-switch mechanisms in the latest 16-inch MacBook Pro and it’s going to be a while for the rest of the company’s Macs to get back to good keyboards again. Waititi trashing Apple was a clever way to get even more media attention after his first Oscar win.
