Ontario Emergency Alert Warns Recent Travellers to Stay Home Due COVID-19

The province of Ontario has sent out an emergency text alert, warning returning travellers they are at high risk of spreading the coronavirus.

Sent out at 2pm EDT, the emergency alert utilized caps lock to send the following message:

TRAVELERS RETURNING TO ONTARIO

You are at high risk of spreading COVID 19. You are required by law to self-isolate for 14 days. DO NOT visit stores, family or friends. Everyone should stay home to stop the spread. Learn more at this website www.ontario.ca/page/2019-novel-coronavirus

The alert was also sent out to radios and televisions today. Recently, the federal government passed an order instructing all people arriving in Canada to self-isolate for 14 days, or face penalties up to three years in prison or up to $1 million in fines.

Did you get this emergency alert today in Ontario? If your smartphone was connected to an LTE network, it should have received the alert.
