Walmart Canada Now Accepts PayPal for Shopping Online

If you frequently shop on Walmart.ca, you can now pay for your online order with PayPal, announced both companies today.

“In the current climate, we understand that shopping online for groceries and other everyday essentials is the need of the hour,” said Paul Parisi, PayPal Canada President, in an issued statement. “We are delighted to announce that now more than seven million active PayPal users across the country can use their digital wallet to shop online at Walmart.”

PayPal also released some data from a recent survey, indicating a 58% surge in the number of Canadians shopping online for groceries over the past four weeks. For Canadians shopping for essential items such as household supplies, toiletries, entertainment, toys and games, all categories saw double-digit increases.

Data shows many are ready to shop online for the long-term, with 81% noting they anticipate continuing to shop online in the coming months, with 44% saying they plan to increase their online shopping. The survey also saw 39% of Canadians still hesitant to shop online, citing concerns about putting payment info on the internet.

“We are proud to be the first Canadian retailer that sells groceries to offer PayPal, making online shopping more accessible for more Canadians,” said Alexis Lanternier, Executive Vice-President of eCommerce for Walmart Canada, in an issued statement. “PayPal has a long-standing reputation as a safe and trusted payment provider and together, we’re helping Canadians shop for the products they need right now.”

This new partnership marks the first time PayPal has teamed up with a Canadian retailer that sells groceries.
