Canadian Tire has updated its iOS app to now include a Curbside Pickup option during checkout, to match its online web store.
The retail chain’s app update explains it “enables guest users to add products they love to their Wishlist and sync to their accounts upon signing in, and fixes major bugs.”
Back in April, Canadian Tire closed down 203 stores in Ontario, which made up 40% of its nationwide network. During the company’s recent first quarter earnings call earlier this month, Canadian Tire said they saw a surge of 25-30 times demand on its website as Canadians overwhelmed the retailer’s online store.
“We believe COVID-19 has permanently shifted the shopping behaviour of many,” said president and chief executive Greg Hicks, during its first quarter earnings conference call. E-commerce sales increased 80% for Canadian Tire, with over volumes at over 80,000 per day in April, versus 5,000 per day before the coronavirus pandemic.
Canadian Tire now plans to expedite its plan to upgrade its e-commerce platform, beginning with the Canadian Tire online store first, instead of its sister brands Sport Check and Mark’s.
