80% of iPhone 12 OLED Displays to be Supplied by Samsung [DigiTimes]

Samsung Display will most likely be Apple’s lead OLED supplier this year, supplying nearly 80% of the displays used in this 2020’s iPhone 12 lineup, DigiTimes is reporting. Before LG came on board as Apple’s second supplier, Samsung was the exclusive display supplier for Apple’s first OLED ‌‌iPhone‌ X back in 2017 (via MacRumors).

With BOE now entering Apple’s supply chain for the 2020 iPhones as the company’s third supplier of OLED displays, it comes as a bit of a surprise that Samsung will continue to supply the majority of displays despite Apple’s focus on diversifying its suppliers for various components.

“Samsung Display has obtained nearly 80% of the overall panel orders for Apple’s next-generation iPhone series tentatively dubbed ‌iPhone 12‌ slated for launch later this year, according to industry sources. LG Display and BOE are other panel suppliers for the upcoming iPhones.”

Reports suggest that of the four new iPhone 12 models launching in 2020, Samsung will supply the displays for three models i.e. the 5.4-inch entry-level ‌iPhone 12‌ and 6.1-inch, and the 6.7-inch ‌iPhone 12‌ Pro.

Apple is widely believed to be on track to launch this year’s new ‌iPhone‌s in the usual September or October timeframe.
