Apple Won’t Include Charger, Earbuds in iPhone 12 Packaging: Kuo

Apple is set to be significantly cutting down on its packaging for its upcoming iPhone line.

While famed Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo had previously stated that Apple will no longer include wired earbuds with the iPhone 12, he today revealed that he also expects the power adapter to now be sold separately, too.

A new report from MacRumors explains that the tipster thinks Apple will remove in-box accessories to offset the cost of the smartphone’s 5G networking components, thus keeping the iPhone 12 at a similar price point to the iPhone 11.

The lack of in-box accessories will almost certainly reduce the size of the iPhone’s packaging significantly, which would, in turn, help in lowering Apple’s freight costs, which in turn reduces transportation costs, something Apple has been working towards from some time.

Instead, Kuo believes Apple will release a 20W power adapter as an optional, sold-seperately accessory, as well as end production of its existing 5W and 18W power adapters later this year.

How Apple handles the messaging on this is crucial: if a charger-less customer picks up a new iPhone 12 and it doesn’t have a charger in the box, it could end up being more of an inconvenience.
