Google Meet is playing catch up with its competitors with a plan to release a host of new features, including some Zoom-like perks such as custom backgrounds and a 49-person tile-view mode.
According to a new report from 9to5Google, the tech giant is working on several new features including background blur, low-light mode and background replacement images for its video calling application Meet. These are features that already exists for Zoom and Skype users, although this will be the first time it’s available on Google meet.
Google is also adding a low-light mode and a hand-raising feature as well as new moderator tools, real-time Q&A, tools for assessing meeting attendance, and more. There’s no word on when the new features will be officially introduced, however, Google is supposedly already showing them off for its customers in the enterprise and education markets.
It’s no surprise that Google is trying its level best to push its video-conferencing solution in a world where physical meetings are just not possible for most. Google integrated Meet into Gmail in May, adding a sidebar link and making meetings of up to 100 people with no time limits available to anyone with a Google account as well as Meet integration for Gmail on iOS and Android.
