Spotify will be launching support for real-time lyrics in 26 markets around the world today. News of this has come nearly a year after the company began testing support in various regions, including Canada.
TechCrunch has reported that Spotify will be launching full support of real-time lyrics in partnership with lyric provider Musixmatch. This new feature will be accessible in 26 countries across Latin America, Southeast Asia, and India. This newly added support will enable users to track and read lyrics in real-time as a song is streamed.
The following countries will receive the feature when it rolls out at 10 AM EST on June 30th: Argentina, Brazil, Colombia, Chile, Mexico, Peru, Bolivia, Costa Rica, Dominican Republic, Ecuador, Guatemala, Honduras, India, Nicaragua, Panama, Paraguay, El Salvador, Uruguay, Vietnam, Philippines, Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand, Taiwan, Singapore and Hong Kong.
In November of last year, Spotify had revealed that tests for this feature were being conducted. Select users in Canada, Mexico, and Indonesia were given access to the feature as Spotify and Musixmatch tested support. Unfortunately, while Mexico and Indonesia will continue to use this feature, those users in Canada will lose access to it upon the official launch.
Currently, there is no word from Spotify as to when real-time lyrics will be available in Canada or the US. Hopefully, it won’t be long until Spotify enables all users to have an impromptu karaoke session within the app.
