The City of Hamilton in Ontario has launched support for the Passport Parking app, allowing residents and visitors to pay for parking from their iPhone or Android smartphone.

According to Charlotte, North Carolina-based Passport, the app will allow drivers to pay for and extend parking from their smartphones at roughly 5,400 on-street and off-street parking spots in Hamilton.

“Many of our neighboring municipalities are utilizing parking technology to modernize their operations,” said Amanda Mcilveen, Hamilton Manager of Parking Operations and New Initiatives, in a statement. “Partnering with Passport allows us to keep up with the pace of innovation and to offer a safer, more convenient option for paying to park in the city.”

The Passport parking app will send notifications to smartphones when parking sessions have ended, while also allow users to extend parking remotely. Parking history and receipts are all stored in the app. With the COVID-19 pandemic, the debut of a touchless parking app is timely, according to both the city and Passport.

Other cities across the country also use the Passport Parking app, which expanded to Canada in January 2016.
