Pushing back the re-opening of its offices once again amid a surge in Coronavirus cases across the United States, Google has today announced that it will be allowing its employees to work from home until July 2021. Previously, Google had said it would let its workers stay home until the end of this year (via Bloomberg).
Google was one of the first major corporations to send employees home when the coronavirus began spreading through the country in March. In an email sent to employees earlier today, Google CEO Sundar Pichai wrote that the change was made to help the company plan ahead and applies to all of its employees worldwide.
“I hope this will offer the flexibility you need to balance work with taking care of yourselves and your loved ones over the next 12 months,” Pichai wrote while pointing out that most school districts won’t open in time for the new academic year, leaving parents facing the prospect of managing their kids while also trying to work.
Many other U.S. companies including Facebook and Amazon, are also revising their plans to reopen offices.
