Public Mobile Gives Out One-Time 5GB Data for Free, Check Your Texts

Telus-owned prepaid brand Public Mobile appears to be in the spirit of giving. A text message sent out this afternoon to select customers says there’s 5GB of free data available, no strings attached.

“Public Mobile here. Make the most of our Canada-wide network with a gift, on us. For a limited time, enjoy a free one-time 5GB of data. Just like that,” reads the text message.

Users need to reply “yes” to the text message by August 24 to opt-in and claim the free gift.

Once users agree to accept the one-time 5GB bonus data, another follow-up message reads, “Good choice! Confirming you have opted in for your bonus one-time add-on. You’ll get a confirmation SMS when it’s on your account. See in Self-Serve by 31-Aug-20.”

Why offer free data to customers? It could be a way to retain customers and prevent them from switching over to another carrier, as data is hard to come by nowadays unless you’re willing to pay for it. It also could be a way for Public Mobile to pad up accounts for statistical purposes ahead of any government regulation or intervention into wireless prices.

Did you get this 5GB free data offer from Public Mobile today?

Thanks Sarah
