Telus has announced its Internet for Good program has launched in B.C. and Alberta, offering $9.95 per month internet access for eligible families.
The program previously was only available to those receiving the maximum Child Care Benefit from the federal government, but it has now expanded to local school boards, expanding access to K-12 students.
“At TELUS, leveraging our technology to help young people realize their full potential is fundamental to the passionate social purpose we all embrace. As students return to school this month, this program ensures every student can stay connected to exciting learning opportunities, whether they are in the classroom or connecting virtually,” said Darren Entwistle, TELUS President and CEO, in a statement.
Telus says the Internet for Good program currently offers high speed internet for over 200,000 low-income families in both provinces.
Teachers, principals and Telus will help identify families in need, and the latter will be given redemption codes to get internet setup at $9.99 per month, with speeds of up to 25 Mbps download and 300GB data per month, with no contracts or cancellation fees.
