Lyft App Now Includes Local Public Transit Options for GTA Riders
Lyft Canada has just updated its app to include local public transit information for riders in the Greater Toronto Area. The app now shows time, route, and price information from four local transit agencies, including the Toronto Transit Commission (TTC), GO Transit, UP Express, and York Region Transit.
Lyft’s 2020 Economic Impact Report found that 60% of Toronto riders do not own or lease a personal vehicle. It also found that 56% of Lyft riders have already used ride-sharing to connect with public transit.
The new transit feature in the Lyft app allows riders to see upcoming departures nearby from local transit agencies. Riders can simply enter a destination and see options to get there on transit, with a complete itinerary from start to finish.
For nearby destinations, Lyft also shows walking directions alongside transit and rideshare options.
“Transit services are an essential part of urban transportation and we’re proud to help riders find their way on public transit,” said Hannah Parish, Lyft’s Ontario General Manager. “Especially now, it’s crucial for local Lyft riders, particularly those who don’t own a personal vehicle, to be able to compare all of their transportation options, whether that includes cycling, walking, public transit or rideshare.”
Lyft has nearly doubled its operating region over the summer to include more of the GTHA, and is now operating in all of the Hamilton, Halton, Peel, York, and most of Durham region.
