Rogers announced today its cable network is expanding to Dufferin County in Ontario, which will see residents in Garafraxa Woods get high-speed internet.
The expansion is a partnership between Rogers, Southwestern Integrated Fibre Technology Inc. (SWIFT) and the federal government and province of Ontario.
“Rural connectivity has never been more important especially as more Canadians live and work from anywhere,” said Eric Bruno, SVP – 5G, Content and Connected Home Products, in a statement. “We are proud to continue our partnership with SWIFT and the governments of Canada and Ontario to expand our network and improve connectivity for families and businesses in Dufferin County.”
Dufferin County is located 100 kilometres northwest of Toronto.
Rogers says a joint $690,000 investment will see five kilometres of fibre optic cable laid to service 108 homes, offering up to gigabit speeds. Construction will start early next year with completion expected for fall 2021. Services made available will include Ignite TV, connected home services and more.
Earlier this year, Rogers and SWIFT announced a fibre optic build in Norfolk County, to service 2,100 homes and businesses. The project is currently underway and expected to complete in the summer of 2021.
