Bell Swoops In on WNBA Star Marina Mabrey After Rogers WiFi Meltdown
The saga of Toronto Tempo guard Marina Mabrey and her unstable Rogers home internet just took a turn, and Bell is the one making the play. Yesterday, Bell slid into her mentions on X with an offer: “Hey @mmabrey1, we want to put an offer on the table. Let’s connect. 🏀”
Bell shared a poster that read, “Bell Wi-Fi Trade Proposal”, highlighting its “up to 8 Gbps download and upload speeds,” along with “we answer your calls” and “it literally works.” Now those are some fighting words, especially after recent online complaints about long wait times to talk to a human from Rogers.
Marina didn’t leave them hanging. Just seven minutes later, she replied with a bunch of side eye emojis and, “calllll mee.” Reading between the lines, it looks like she’s open to Bell’s WiFi trade proposal.
The timing tells the whole story of what’s happening. Rogers didn’t reply to her original complaint publicly for at least 24 hours, and Bell is now taking full advantage of the PR opening, and it is looking pretty good.
Mabrey has been getting a crash course in Canadian telecom after her home internet left her unable to watch the end of a crucial WNBA matchup. She vented on X about her Rogers connection, posting, “Someone please help me with Rogers WiFi. It literally doesn’t work 🥲 and they never answer my calls.” Predictably, chaos followed online in the replies.
More than a day later, RogersHelps finally responded on X: “We’re sorry to hear you’re experiencing WiFi issues. Send us a direct message, and we’ll be happy to work with you to get everything up and running again as quickly as possible.”
Bell spotted the opening and jumped in afterward, replying: “Hi Marina! We would love to help you! Check your DMs and we can connect you with some winning internet. 🔥💙”
Her original post lit up with responses from Canadians sharing their own telecom horror stories, plenty telling her “welcome to Canada” and suggesting she switch to Bell or try satellite internet like Starlink, though since she’s in a condo that may not be an option.
Mabrey joined the Toronto Tempo in April after signing a two-year max contract worth $2.4 million. Whether she ends up making the switch to Bell remains to be seen, but for now, the ball is very much in her court.
