iOS 14.2 Release Candidate Download and iPadOS 14.2 RC Released for Developers

Apple has released golden master (GM) seeds of iOS 14.2 and iPadOS 14.2, signalling an imminent public release of this software update for iPhone and iPad users. GM seeds are essentially the final versions Apple will release to the public.

With these latest GM seeds for developers, expect the public to get access to final iOS 14.2 and iPadOS 14.2 builds next week.

This latest update brings over 100 new emojis, eight new wallpapers and other enhancements and updates to iPhone and iPad.

Here are the changes for iPhone users in iOS 14.2 GM:

• Magnifier can now detect people nearby and report their distance using LiDAR on iPhone 12 Pro and iPhone 12 Pro Max
• Support for iPhone 12 Leather Sleeve with MagSafe
• Optimized battery charging for AirPods to slow charging and save battery aging
• Headphone audio level notifications
• New AirPlay controls
• Intercom support for HomePod and HomePod mini
• Connect HomePod to Apple TV 4K for stereo, surround sound, Dolby Atmos audio
• Option to provide stats about Exposure Notifications anonymously to participating Public Health Authorities

Here are the changes for iPad users in iOS 14.2 GM:

• Magnifier can now detect people nearby and report their distance using LiDAR on 12.9″ iPad Pro (4th gen) and 11-inch iPad Pro (2nd gen)
• Scene Detection in Camera for iPad Air (4th gen): intelligent image recognition to identify objects in a scene and automatically improves photo
• Auto FPS in Camera automatically reduces frame rate for videos to improve low light capture and file size on iPad Air (4th gen)
• New AirPlay controls
• Intercom support for HomePod and HomePod mini
• Connect HomePod to Apple TV 4K for stereo, surround sound, Dolby Atmos audio

iOS 14.2 and iPadOS 14.2 only saw four beta releases, with the most recent builds coming on October 20, 2020.
