iFixit iPhone 12 Pro Max Teardown Reveals Large Camera Module

Iphone 12 pro max teardown

iFixit has published its full iPhone 12 Pro Max teardown:

Before we tore it down, the iPhone 12 Pro Max seemed almost too big—but it turns out, it might be just big enough? Thus far, the iPhone 12 series has struggled to accommodate some hefty 5G hardware, resulting in deep cuts to battery capacity, speakers, and even the Taptic Engine. The Pro Max seems full-bodied enough to hold its own against 5G pressures, keeping its huge camera assembly, high-tech L-shaped battery, and a modular SIM reader. It’s the best of all possible worlds, if you don’t mind the biggest of all possible worlds.

Inside the teardown we see the large camera module in the iPhone 12 Pro Max, which explains why the camera bump and area has increased this year:

iFixit also has x-ray images of the camera module, indeed showing off the larger sensor (47% says Apple) on the wide camera.

The iPhone 12 Pro Max L-shaped battery has 14.13 Wh, versus the 8.57 Wh mini battery and the 10.78 Wh 12 and 12 Pro. In comparison, last year’s iPhone 11 Pro Max has  15.04 Wh pack.

iFixit gave the iPhone 12 Pro Max a final repairability score of 6 out of 10 (10 being easiest to repair).
