Netflix Canada Shares Viewing Trends for Canadians in 2020

Netflix Canada has today shared what Canadians streamed the most in 2020, while revealing that Canadian titles like Vikings and Code 8 hit the top 10 list on Netflix in as much as 68 countries.

According to the video streaming giant, Canadians watched more than twice as much K-Drama in 2020 than last year, including Kingdom and The King: Eternal Monarch, which were the most popular titles in this genre.

Canadians also watched more Fantasy on Netflix, with Locke & Key and The Letter for the King among the top spots. Finally, Canadian Netflix viewers took some time to try out Anime titles like Pokémon: Mewtwo Strikes Back – Evolution and Blood of Zeus.

Among the non-fiction shows, Love is Blind, The Last Dance, Tiger King, and Unsolved Mysteries were all on the top 10 for more than 30 days each in 2020.

Thrillers remained one of the most viewed genres for Canadians on Netflix for the months of March, April and May with titles like Ozark (Season 3), Dangerous Lies and Inheritance among the most popular.

Searches for baking shows in Canada went up by 81% in April over the month of March and searches for cooking shows went up by 65% from March to April. And the kids weren’t going to be left out – we also saw an increase of 38% for kids baking shows in March over the month of February.

First Quebec Original Film, The Decline also landed on the top 10 list in 11 countries.
