Videotron has launched its 5G network in Montreal, Quebec, powered by hardware from Samsung.
“This is a big day for Videotron!” says Jean-François Pruneau, President and CEO of Videotron, in a statement. “5G technology is throwing the doors open to a world of marvels and Videotron is very enthusiastic about embarking on the path to this promising and exciting future, in which technology will truly serve the daily needs and wants of our families and businesses.”
The Quebec wireless carrier says they will gradually roll out 5G and eventually, its entire network will see 5G service. The launch means Videotron customers with compatible 5G smartphones, such as Apple’s iPhone 12 lineup, can get slightly faster speeds versus LTE.
Videotron has been testing 5G at the Open-Air Laboratory for Smart Living since 2019, in partnership with the École de technologie supérieure (ÉTS) and the Quartier de l’innovation.
