Apple Launches iCloud Password Extension for Chrome

Apple has released its iCloud password extension for Google Chrome on Windows and Mac. The official extension enables users to use stored iCloud Keychain passwords on Chrome. Now, making the transition between Safari and Chrome can be all the more fluid and less stressful when utilizing password management software.

According to a report from The Verge, Apple’s iCloud Keychain extension is now readily available to both Windows and Mac users. The use of the extension means that no matter the operating software you are using, you can bring over your secure passwords stored on the iCloud Keychain.

Passwords that have been generated using Safari and have been synced to iCloud Keychain will now be available to use on Chrome when asked to log in to a website or service. Additionally, any password generated when using Chrome will also be synced and ready to use if and when the user goes back to Safari.

Many were anticipating the release of the Chrome extension after it was reported that a listing for “Support for iCloud Passwords Chrome Extension” was included in an iCloud Windows 10 app update last week. Aside from the mention of the extension, Apple never formally announced its plans to bring iCloud Keychain support to Chrome browsers.
