WhatsApp Reportedly Working on Password-Protected iCloud Backups
While WhatsApp already offers end-to-end encryption across its messaging and voice calling features, any iCloud backups of these chats are, however, are not encrypted. According to a new report by WABetaInfo, the company is still in the process of bringing password-protected backups to iCloud.
Looking at the screenshots shared by the source, it seems that WhatsApp users will soon be able to set a password that will be used to encrypt future backups.
“The chat database and media will be safe from unauthorized access when using a password. The password is private and it’s not sent to WhatsApp.
It will be available in a future build for iOS and Android.”
“This password will be required when you restore from the backup,” the description reads.
As previously announced, @WhatsApp is working on cloud backups encryption.

It is not yet known as to when the feature will officially begin rolling out.
