Android OS 12 Features Leaked Ahead of Release

The folks over XDA Developers have just shared a hands-on preview of an unreleased version of Google’s upcoming Android 12 OS for smartphones and tablets, offering a first look at features not previously seen in the public developer previews.

The upcoming Android 12 offers a handful of functional changes, including the ability to take scrolling screenshots. Since Google’s scrolling screenshot implementation doesn’t actually involve stitching images together, Android 12 can skip having to show the user an animation of the page scrolling down.

Users can hold the power button to bring up Google Assistant, there’s a new search bar in the widget picker, new emojis have been introduced, as well as new Wi-Fi settings and a dual-panel home screen for tablets.

Among the major design changes, the Android 12 update includes the following:

• New volume panel UI
• Splash screens for every app
• Tweaks to the ripple and over-scroll effects
• New app drawer opening animation
• New charging animation
• Slight tweak to the thicker brightness slider
• “Reduce brightness” renamed to “extra dim”
• Slight tweak to the conversation widget picker
