Apple announced today at WWDC it would be expanding its virtual assistant Siri to third-party devices, and one of the first to support will be Toronto-based ecobee and its smart thermostat.

Ecobee says later this year, new or existing SmartThermostat with voice control customers, that also own a HomePod or HomePod mini will be able to enable Siri. Once turned on, the phrase “Hey Siri” will allow customers to control their thermostat with their voice.

“We’re excited to integrate Siri into ecobee’s Smart Thermostat with voice control and offer Apple customers a more seamless experience throughout the home. With every advancement to our products, we hope to make our customers’ lives better, with devices that bring even more convenience to each day. Today’s announcement brings that promise to life by opening up new ways for our customers to interact with our SmartThermostat using Siri,” said Stuart Lombard, ecobee Founder and CEO, in an emailed statement to iPhone in Canada.

Ecobee’s flagship thermostat already supports Apple HomeKit, Amazon’s Alexa, Google Assistant and also SmartThings.
