Microsoft Teams Together Mode Begins Testing Smaller Groups

Microsoft is testing a version of the Teams Together Mode for smaller groups of users. Utilizing AI, Together Mode puts all participants into a virtual environment.

Microsoft Team Together Mode first launched in 2020 during the COVID-19 pandemic. As work-from-home and social distancing measures were put in place, Microsoft developed a way to bring users together. However, at the time, Together Mode was reserved for larger groups of users. Members of the Team call could be placed in various digital environments such as an auditorium, a coffee shop, etc. The Together Mode has even been used by the NBA to bring fans courtside once more during the pandemic.

Now, according to a report from The Verge, the testing of smaller groups in Together Mode has begun. Unfortunately, it appears as though it will only be accessible to those in the Teams Developer Preview. Initially, Together Mode was used to accommodate as many as 49 users with a minimum of five. If and when the smaller group feature rolls out to the public, it was be accessible with only two members.

If you’re eager to join the Teams Developer Preview and gain access to the feature, you may find some luck when attempting to join. Once in Teams, you must click on the ellipsis next to your profile near the top-right corner. From there, navigate to About and check Developer Preview. If you have a valid work account, everything should be straightforward from there. If not, the option may not appear due to how the account is set up.
