Apple has announced on Tuesday mobile student IDs will be expanding to the iPhone and Apple Watch in Canada for the first time.

Student IDs have been available for select colleges and universities in the United States, but now the feature is coming to Canada this year.

The feature allows students to store their ID cards in the Wallet app on iPhone and Apple Watch. For Canada, the University of New Brunswick and Sheridan College will support the feature this year. Essentially, the digital student ID card will replace the physical card for any actions needed.

“We’re excited to work with more schools in the US and introduce mobile student IDs in Canada to provide a secure and convenient way to get around campus with iPhone and Apple Watch,” said Jennifer Bailey, Apple’s vice president of Apple Pay, in a statement. “Students and faculty have embraced using their iPhone and Apple Watch as the best way to access buildings, purchase meals, and more.”

In the United States, student IDs will expand to Auburn University (38,000 devices), Northern Arizona University, University of Maine, New Mexico State University and more colleges.

“UNB is a leader in deploying technology that is convenient and easy to use,” said Terry Nikkel, University of New Brunswick’s chief information officer and associate vice president of Information Technology Services, in a statement. “Our students with iPhone and Apple Watch are really going to like our mobile ID card for its flexibility and usefulness, and we are pleased to be the first university in Canada to offer this service.”

With mobile student IDs, lost cards are a thing of the past, while Apple says privacy is first and foremost as no data is shared with the company or stored on its servers.
