TikTok has been copied by nearly every social media platform — now it’s doing the opposite by adding a “stories” feature.
TikTok is the latest social network to add some version of Snapchat’s disappearing messages, this time in the form of TikTok Stories. According to the feature’s messsaging, new stories will disappear 24 hours after they were posted to the service.
The new feature was first reported by Matt Navarra on Twitter, with The Verge also getting the lowdown from a TikTok spokesperson.
As spotted by social media consultant Matt Navarra, some TikTok influencers appear to have gotten access to the ephemeral “Stories” feature. The screengrabs of the new feature posted by Navarra describe stories as “a new way to interact with your fans,” prompting users to “share daily highlights that disappear after 24 hours.”

“We’re always thinking about new ways to bring value to our community and enrich the TikTok experience,” a TikTok spokesperson said. “Currently we’re experimenting with ways to give creators additional formats to bring their creative ideas to life for the TikTok community.”
Like Stories, the TikTok format has been widely copied across the social media ecosphere, including by Snapchat (via Spotlight), Instagram Reels, Twitter’s now-defunct Fleets feature, and YouTube Shorts.
