Rogers to Expand Fibre Internet to Ramara in Simcoe County

Rogers says its fibre internet network will be expanding to the Township of Ramara in Simcoe County, Ontario.

“Connectivity plays a vital role in ensuring people can work, communicate with friends and family, gain education, access health care, and contribute meaningfully to their communities,” said Phil Hartling, Executive Vice President, Service Expansion, Rogers Communications, in an issued statement on Thursday.

Rogers will invest over $4 million to expand its network across 38 square kilometres, expanding fibre internet to over 800 homes and businesses. Construction has already started with partner Ruralwave, with completion set for mid-2022.

The company says earlier in October, it enabled 10 cell towers to offer wireless home internet to nearly 1,000 homes and businesses in the rural area.

Ramara Township Mayor Basil Clarke added, “This investment in affordable high-speed internet will help our residents connect with families, friends and workplaces and get us closer to our goal of expanding broadband services to all residents and businesses across our community. We’d like to also thank Rogers for its additional investment and for making it possible to expand high-speed broadband in Ramara.”

Telcos have continued to fast track and expand rural internet plans, due to the COVID-19 pandemic and also from alternative internet offerings such as SpaceX’s Starlink satellite internet, available to many rural Canadians.
