Apple Celebrates Black History Month Across Various Services

This February, Apple is highlighting Black businesses and innovations with new content across its services to celebrate Black History Month.

In a new press release, Apple unveiled plans to highlight Black voices throughout Black History Month, including a new Apple Watch band and face as well as ne content across Apple Music, Fitness+, and the Podcasts app throughout February.

“In celebration of Black History Month, Apple is spotlighting Black business and innovation, and amplifying Black voices with a variety of exclusive content and curated collections,” reads the press release. “Throughout the month, users can listen to special episodes of ‘The Message’ on Apple Music 1 that discuss Black creators’ contributions to culture and the importance of health and wellness in the community; join new workouts that honor Black History Month on Apple Fitness+; discover new podcasts from Black creators about health, well-being, culture, and history on Apple Podcasts; and much more. Starting today, customers can also enjoy a special edition Unity Lights watch face and order the new Apple Watch Black Unity Braided Solo Loop.”

Apple Watch users are in for a treat, as the company is celebrating the month with a new, special edition $99 Black Unity Braided Solo Loop that weaves the Pan-African flag’s colors into the stretchable black band. Apple also released a free, matching Unity Lights face that’s reportedly the first watch face to use “2D ray tracing” to simulate light, creating a distinctive aura around the minute and hour hands.

Apple Music is running a campaign around the theme “Music is Healing,” while Apple Fitness+ has playlists that promote Black artists, plus meditations “focused on the themes of gratitude and awareness.”

Apple Podcasts is highlighting shows from Black creators and about Black history, health, wellbeing, and culture; the App Store is showcasing apps that are enabling Black health and wellness in all areas of life, Apple said.

Apple Books is also focusing on the same theme, and inside Apple Maps, users can learn about Black history or discover Black-owned businesses through curated Guides. Apple TV has collections curated by prominent Black creators and stars.

Inside Apple News, users can take a “dive deep into the important work of today’s top Black journalists,” with “expert reporting and analysis on the Black experience through curated collections, audio stories, and episodes of Apple News Today,” the company explains.

Finally, Apple’s “Shot on iPhone” campaign continues with “Our Stories,” featuring portraits and video of four “pioneers who are at the nexus of Black history,” including an athlete, a costume designer, a music executive, and a Michelin-starred chef.
