Twitter Celebrates Black History Month 2022 in Canada

Twitter’s global co-chair of @Blackbirds, Lade Ogunsanya, has today shared a new post on Twitter Canada’s official blog highlighting how the social network is celebrating and inviting users to celebrate #BlackHistoryMonth.

#BlackHistoryMonth is an annual celebration which highlights the achievements of Black communities across the globe. Each February, it’s observed in the United States and many other countries, including here in Canada.

Twitter’s hashtag for 2022 is #TakeUpSpace, inspired by a growth mindset through psychological safety “because it reminds us that we matter.”

For the month of February, Tweeting the #TakeUpSpace hashtag will unlock a custom Black History Month Twitter emoji and add some colour to your Tweets on desktop and mobile.

Giving back to the community is another important part of Twitter’s work for both the @Blackbirds and the Twitter Canada office overall. This includes supporting organizations like Operation Black Vote Canada (@BlackVoteCanada), a non-profit, multi-partisan organization that supports the election of Black people to public office.

Twitter will also be hosting a series of events for staff, so colleagues worldwide can join in the conversation and experience.
