Telus was Canada’s Fastest Mobile Provider in Q1 2022; Shaw Fastest Fixed Broadband

According to Ookla’s Q1 Market Report on the state of Canada’s mobile and fixed networks, Shaw was the fastest fixed broadband provider among top providers in Canada in Q1 2022 with a median download speed of 213.47 Mbps.

The Speedtest service provider’s latest report also found that Telus was the fastest mobile operator in Canada in Q1 2022 with a median download speed of 94.48 Mbps, topping rivals Bell and Rogers.

Upload speeds are increasingly becoming a differentiator with Canada’s fiber providers showing upload speeds up to 12 times faster at the provincial level than those on all fixed broadband, notes Ookla.

Calculating median latency for top mobile providers in Canada during Q1 2022, Freedom Mobile had the lowest latency at 18 ms. For top fixed broadband providers, Bell Canada had the lowest latency at 5 ms.

New Brunswick showed the fastest median download speed over fixed broadband in Canada during Q1 2022 at 152.93 Mbps. Yukon Territory had the slowest median download speed during the same period.

In measuring the consistency of each fixed broadband provider’s performance, we found that there was no statistical winner for the highest Consistency Score™ in Canada during Q1 2022.

In measuring the consistency of each operator’s performance, we found that Videotron had the highest Consistency Score™ in Canada during Q1 2022, with 92.2% of results showing at least a 5 Mbps minimum download speed and 1 Mbps minimum upload speed.

Looking only at tests taken on a 5G connection, Telus had the fastest median download in Canada during Q1 2022 at 162.47 Mbps.
