Bell Launches Fastest Internet in North America With 8 Gbps Download and Upload Speeds

Bell on Tuesday announced the launch of its Fibe Gigabit 8.0 service in Toronto, offering 8 Gbps pure fibre internet connections to customers.

The company said in a media release that pure fibre internet connections with symmetrical download and upload speeds of 8Gbps are now available in select areas of Ontario’s capital city. Bell claimed that the new service offers “the fastest Internet speeds available in North America.”

Furthermore, the national telecom operator also announced the debut of the Bell Giga Hub with Wi-Fi 6E, the latest and greatest in Wi-Fi technology, in both Ontario and Quebec.

“We’re excited that our customers in Toronto will be the first to experience Bell Fibe Gigabit 8.0 and the Giga Hub with Wi-Fi 6E so that they can enjoy the fastest Internet speeds and the best Wi-Fi technology in North America,” said Blaik Kirby, Group President of Consumer and Small & Medium Business at Bell.

“And we won’t stop here. We’ll continue to advance our commitment to deliver a superb Internet experience for our customers across our entire footprint.”

According to Bell, its Gigabit 8.0 service delivers download speeds that are five times faster than cable connections and upload speeds 250 times faster.

Ontario is only the first to get Bell Fibe Gigabit 8.0, as the company plans to expand availability over the coming months. As part of its aggressive fibre buildout, Bell plans to upgrade up to 900,000 more homes and businesses across Canada to direct fibre connections this year.

Each Bell Fibe Gigabit 8.0 connection includes a Bell Giga Hub with Wi-Fi 6E. The new Wi-Fi standard delivers faster speeds per connected device and has more bandwidth to alleviate device congestion.

Eligible customers can subscribe to Bell Fibe Gigabit 8.0 for as low as $135/month, which includes a credit of $15/month for a two-year period. You can learn more about the service at Bell.ca.

Bell has been offering Gigabit internet in much of Canada since as early as 2015. The company launched 3 Gbps pure fibre internet connections back in April, boasting Canada’s fastest internet speeds at the time.

I have 50mps down and 10mbps up, and granted I live alone, but I doubt I’d notice the difference if my connection were faster. I even work with video files and it’s just not that much of an impediment in my work flow to have to wait five minutes once-in-awhile to transfer something large. I suppose one day faster will be better, but for one user I just don’t see the need for more speed than what I have right now.

You are absolutely correct. I have 1gbps/750mbps plan from Bell that i got for promo. I don’t think that i could go up to 1gbps. 500 mbps would probably the fastest. I have friends who are somewhere on your plan, and they don’t have any issues.

Yup. I just upgraded (it was a better deal) from 150 to 1 Gig service last month, and I forgot I even had it. Made zero difference in day to day use. Even with multiple people in a household, I still think it’s overkill. Heck, even at 20 ppl you’d still have plenty of bandwidth to go around. I’m having a hard time thinking of practical applications (for home use) other than video editors, and VFX artists.

Bell can only offer 50mbps and that is FTTN as they don’t offer FTTH at my address and it’s 2022 lol, 7 years after their Gigabit internet launch and yet no network upgrade since…

8 Gbps: Bell is offering a new and improved way to load ads faster to your devices. In the mean time, Bell also improved how fast they can empty your pockets…
Just saying.
