WhatsApp Improves Calling Features: Screen Sharing is Here and More

Whatsapp desktop calling

WhatsApp debuted calling to the messaging app back in 2015, offering improvements over time to include group calls, video calls, and multi-platform support.

Now, several new updates will be rolling out over the next few weeks to improve the calling experience across devices.

One major update is the ability to share your screen with audio, which is ideal for activities like watching videos together with friends and family. That’s going to make it easier to do group calls related to meetings and work. Great improvement idea.

The maximum number of participants in a video call has also increased, now allowing up to 32 people to join a call on all devices. A new speaker spotlight feature will automatically highlight and display the speaker first on the screen, making it easier to see who is talking.

The recent launch of the MLow codec has improved call reliability says WhatsApp, while. mobile devices now benefit from better noise and echo cancellation, bringing clearer conversations even in noisy environments.

Video calls will have higher resolution for users with faster connections, and overall audio quality is crisper, even on poor network connectivity or older devices.
