Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Red Rescue Hits Nintendo Switch Online August 9

Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Red Rescue Team has been announced to be coming to Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack this month.

Over on X (formerly Twitter), Nintendo revealed that the beloved Game Boy Advance game was being added to its subscription service. On August 9, Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack members can venture into dungeons as a Pokémon with a partner. “Introducing the newest Pokémon. You!,” the social team writes.

Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Red Rescue Team was launched in 2005 alongside Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Blue Rescue Team. The latter of which was released on Nintendo DS. Much like core Pokémon games, the two share nearly identical versions of the gameplay. Blue Rescue Team, however, had dual-screen features on the Nintendo DS. There are six exclusive Pokémon in each game.

The game’s description reads as follows: “All of a sudden, you’ve found yourself in a new world, one where you’re now a Pokémon yourself and can speak and interact with other Pokémon. The adventure begins when you and your partner Pokémon set out on rescue missions in a world ravaged by natural disasters. But what is your true purpose and destiny in this Pokémon world? That’s the real mystery!”

At the start of Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Red Rescue Team, players will take a personality quiz to determine which Pokémon they will become. Options include Pikachu, Eevee, Charmander, Totodile, Chikorita, and more. You’re then taken to the world of Pokémon to explore mysterious dungeons and engage in turn-based battles.

A yearly subscription to Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack is available for $63.99 in Canada. Nintendo also offers a 12-month Family Membership, including up to eight accounts, for $99.99.

Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack offers a catalogue of Game Boy, Game Boy Advance, NES, and SNES titles. Last month, Nintendo added Densetsu no Starfy, Densetsu no Starfy 2, and Densetsu no Starfy 3 to the service.
