Rogers to Debut Wildfire Detection Technology in BC and Alberta

Rogers and SenseNet have announced plans to introduce wildfire detection technology to 10 communities across Canada, starting in Alberta and British Columbia.

Vancouver-based SenseNet specializes in early wildfire detection and will use its AI tech on the Rogers 5G network. The system integrates gas sensors, smoke detection cameras, and AI algorithms to provide real-time alerts for early wildfire detection.

The first communities to benefit from this wildfire detection tech will include Sparwood and Willowvale in British Columbia, and several locations in Alberta, such as Christina Lake, Grand Prairie, and Jasper, starting now and early spring of 2025.

It’s critical to detect wildfires early, allowing for quicker response times and potentially reducing the severity of fires. We all saw the recent devastation in Jasper and ongoing wildfires throughout part of BC and Alberta.

This partnership follows earlier deployments of similar technology by SenseNet in the Predator Ridge Resort Community near Vernon, BC, where it has already helped in early fire detection.

Rogers is also working with UBC and BC Wildfire Service to monitor wildfires using 5G sensors, and is collaborating with SpaceX and Lynk to extend coverage to underserved areas.
