Black Myth: Wukong Becomes Fastest-Selling Game in History
Black Myth: Wukong, an action RPG developed by Game Science and backed by Tencent Holdings, has reached an extraordinary milestone by selling 10 million copies in just 83 hours of its release (via Bloomberg).

The game, inspired by the legendary Chinese figure, the Monkey King, hit the 10 million sales mark by Friday evening, Beijing time, after its launch on Tuesday. The announcement was made by Game Science on social media platform X, where the developer shared the impressive sales figures and other key milestones.
One of the most notable achievements of Wukong was its peak concurrent user count, which soared to 3 million players across PC and PlayStation platforms worldwide, highlighting its instant success and global reach.
Upon its release, “Wukong” quickly became the most popular single-player game on the PC gaming platform Steam, surpassing major titles like Cyberpunk 2077 and Elden Ring. Data from SteamDB confirmed that Wukong not only topped the charts on its first day but also continued to attract a growing number of players, setting a new record for concurrent players on Steam by Thursday.
Priced at approximately $38 in mainland China and Hong Kong—significantly lower than the $60 price tag in the United States—Wukong has found a strong following in its home market.
The game is deeply rooted in Chinese culture, with meticulously recreated historical temples and other elements that resonate with local players. In a documentary released on the eve of the game’s launch, one of the game’s founders expressed a “simple love” for the nation, further emphasizing the cultural pride embedded in Wukong.

According to Niko Partners analyst Daniel Ahmad, Wukong generated over $450 million in gross revenue within its first three days, a testament to its overwhelming popularity.
This success was further bolstered by a sales promotion run by Sony Group for its PlayStation 5 in China during the week of the game’s launch, leading to sold-out consoles in stores across the country.
