You Can Now Add Seneca OneCards to Apple Wallet

Seneca Polytechnic students and staff in the Greater Toronto Area can now add their Virtual OneCard to Apple Wallet, making it accessible on iPhones and Apple Watches.

The OneCard, Seneca’s official photo ID, is required for accessing facilities, services, dining, and the Campus Shuttle, among other benefits. It can also be used for purchases at Evolutions Spa and The Boutique.

Adding the OneCard to Apple Wallet is fairly easy. The card is stored directly on your iPhone or Apple Watch, ensuring that Apple cannot track access points, keeping user data private.

To add the OneCard to Apple Wallet, users should update the Seneca OneCard app, open the app’s side menu, and select “Add to Apple Wallet.”

With Express Mode, users can tap their device on a reader without unlocking it or opening any apps, providing a seamless experience across campus.

Not many postsecondary institutions have jumped onto photo ID cards for Apple Wallet. Seneca joins only York University and Toronto Metropolitan University (TMU) as the only other Toronto-based postsecondary institutions to support campus ID through Apple Wallet, said Seneca in a statement to iPhone in Canada.

Update Sept. 12, 2024: Seneca noted employees can add OneCard now, but support for students will be in the “coming weeks”.

I’m not sure that’s what “express mode” means in the context of Apple Wallet…

like, Express Transit Mode? Which allows you to use a payment card without unlocking your phone, or even use it after you’ve run out of battery with certain transit (Translink).

Yes, that’s exactly what it means. Apple has enabled this feature for some NFC passes and tickets for some time now (for example, Disney World’s park tickets). It’s a setting available on the pass itself, enabling you to tap without unlocking.
